Coleman Wong won gold in the Asian Games men's singles final in Nagoya on Saturday. He beat Wu Yibing 6-2, 6-4. The win also books his place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, his first.
So that's why the search bar is busy tonight.
Here's the bit I like. Asked whether Rafael Nadal had been in touch, Wong said: "I haven't checked my messages. I don't know. Let's see." The kid just won gold and hasn't looked at his phone. Honestly, most of us can't manage that during lunch.
Nadal does keep tabs, though. Wong moved to Spain at 17 to train at the Rafa Nadal Academy. He says Nadal regularly asks his coaches how he's doing and how the team atmosphere is. Sometimes they all meet, with Nadal's uncle Toni too.
Wong was already the first Hong Kong man to reach the third round of a Grand Slam, at the 2025 US Open. Wang Xiyu won the women's final in Nagoya, so both singles titles went to players representing Hong Kong and China.
What's not in the reports yet: whether Nadal has actually messaged. Wong's plan for now is simple. "Just trying to keep improving myself, see how far I can go."
